It all started with a space…
The Enspire Challenge was a joint initiative by Tauranga City, Western Bay of Plenty and Bay of Plenty Regional Councils to find out what environmental change young locals most want to see and encourage more people to get involved in caring for land, water and wildlife around the western Bay of Plenty.
which inspired an idea..
In May 2015, the Bethlehem College (New Zealand) school Environment captains, Aaron Lipinski and Nicole Warren, were awarded a $2000 grant to put towards an environmental project, after submitting a quick video to the local Tauranga City Council ‘ENSPIRE’ film competition.
The idea was to raise awareness among students of the effects we have on the environment by creating a mural, to be displayed in an area with a particularly bad rubbish problem.
and a winning design…
A secondary school competition was held to design the mural itself, with the main criteria being that it had to be thought provoking and inspire others to take action against an environmental issue, reflected in Jasmine Chin’s mural of an hourglass.
Jasmine’s design reflects how we are ruining the natural environment we have, and the time we have left to reverse the damage done is running out with it.
which we helped bring to life…
Bethlehem College then further developed the mosaic concept within Jasmine’s design into a more modern one, commissioning us to transfer the design onto digitally printed tiles.
Following printing and firing, the completed tiles were securely shipped to New Zealand where they were assembled on-site by the Bethlehem College team.
to create a stunning TiledScape…
Commenting on the completed mural, Bethlehem College said:
“We were very pleased the finished result, the mural now sits directly above the school canteen, where it can be seen from afar and hopefully inspire students to be aware in future of the impact we have on our planet, for a long time to come”.
